PhD Martta Heikkilä is Adjunct Professor in Aesthetics at the University of Helsinki, Finland. She lectures and publishes on theory of contemporary art and aesthetics in the context of modern continental philosophy, particularly phenomenology and poststructuralism. Her current research project concerns the topics of deconstruction and the visual arts especially in Derrida’s philosophy, and in recent years, she has edited and written volumes on art criticism and philosophy of drawing. She is the author of her forthcoming monograph Deconstruction and the Work Art of Art: Visual Arts and Their Critique in Contemporary French Thought (working title; Lexington Books / Rowman & Littlefield, 2020) and At the Limits of Presentation: Coming-into-Presence and its Aesthetic Relevance in Jean-Luc Nancy’s Philosophy (Peter Lang, 2008), and has contributed to End of the World (Rowman & Littlefield, 2017), Nancy Dictionary (Edinburgh UP, 2015) and Limite – illimité: questions au présent (Cécile Defaut, 2012). Apart from her research, she has worked at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts as a fixed-term Professor in art history and art theory in 2016 and as Senior Lecturer in 2012–2014.
