Résumé :

The European expression of “magical realism” (1925) was rivaled by the expression of “real maravilloso”, defined by Alejo Carpentier (1949). Behind this change in terminology lies a whole rhetorical strategy, intended to link the notion to American territory at the expense of Europe. We will look closely at its implementation, observing its link to a form of hysterization, through the emotional rather than intellectual springs that underlie it. We will also study how this strategy has had a lasting impact on the theoretical approaches of magical realism.
